My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads Synopsis:

This booze-soaked second volume of RAT QUEENS reveals a growing menace within the very walls of Palisade. And while Dee may have run from her past, the bloated, blood-feasting sky god N’rygoth never really lets his children stray too far.

My Review:

I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

In order to provide an honest review, I had to read the first five installments, which can be found in one complete volume, Rat Queens, Vol. 1: Sass and Sorcery. So, by the time I got to Vol. 2, I was hooked. I also wanted to provide a snapshot of the main characters, Hannah, Violet, Dee, and Betty, that would show the epitome of their beings.

Each character is badass in their own way. Hannah is a leader, who is not afraid to risk herself to save her friends, although she'd never admit it. Violet is both a lover and a fighter, who isn't afraid to stand up for what she wants. Dee is more mellow, although she will kick your ass if it needs it, and although she has doubts about the beliefs she was raised with, she still respects the traditions. Betty is a wild one, she seems to like sex, candy, and drugs, not necessarily in that order and preferably all at the same time. These four are sex, drugs, and rock and roll, if by rock and roll you mean kicking ass!

I loved the world building, and the accompanied graphics are amazing. The storyline flowed well, and has the potential to continue on for a very long time (here's hoping from a new fan). Immediately we are given just enough to get to the girls as they are now, but not how they became how they are now. As the story progresses, and more so in Vol. 2, we are given a little more background on these girls, and it leaves the reader (at least me) wanting more.

There are swear words (which I'm storing away for a rainy day in my "cuss-bucket"), sexual scenes and nudity, and major violence. In a heartbeat, I would recommend this book if you are mature enough to handle such content. I don't want to hear about anyone crying to their mommies because they are offended! Nut up, or walk away, it's that simple!
